World Sleep Day

Update on the ticker: the heart cath. procedure was this past Tuesday. The results were good! There are no blocked arteries on the heart or the kidneys. The heart had slight “reduced pump function” and the aorta was enlarged but neither warrant even seeing the cardiologist again. Yay!

The next step is to have my sleep apnea checked out. It has been 4 yrs since I last saw the sleep doc. Usually, I learn all I can about my illnesses/diseases/syndromes so that I understand what is going on. With sleep apnea, however, I just use my mask and machine each night like a good girl and that was that. Big mistake. Sleep apnea needs to be evaluated and treatment adjusted, just like with hypertension. Inadequate treatment means the body gets less oxygen at night and the sleep is disturbed. Both cause enough problems on their own.

I saw my GP Friday and, after reminding him I’ve been trying to get an appt. with the sleep doc for nearly 3 mos, he promised I’d be contacted with the appt. Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I promised to return and kick him Tuesday if not.

I’ve been doing research at the American Sleep Apnea Association’s site. I’ve also visited the ASAA forum. Today they announced the 1st World Sleep Day. Slated for March 14th, the World Sleep Day “is intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on many fronts related to sleep that include education, social issues and driving.”

Comments

  1. So, on March 14, do we celebrate “Sleep Day” with revelry or by sleeping the day away? Or, perhaps, a sleepover?

  2. Elena: I’m not sure! A sleep over sounds good.

Sophia: Thanks! We are overjoyed that my heart is fine but frustrated we still don’t know what is going on.
