Now they went and made me mad

Seems as though the only time I post here is to rant. Perhaps it is just my preferred method of venting. Perhaps it is because I am mad a lot. Or, perhaps there’s just not been much good stuff to brag about. Either way, I’ll fix that. And no, I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions.

So I get an email today from Asus, the computer maker. I have a monitor made by them and Lorna’s computer is theirs. We like them both and, overall, are pleased with them. Until today. The email was just the usual looking “here’s something new just for you!” kind of crap. Normally, when I sign up for something, I make sure to not get subscribed to anything. My email boxes are full enough, thank you. At the bottom of the email is this sentence (in teeny tiny font as usual):

To unsubscribe, please login ASUS Member Site to setup. Please do not reply to this email.

I never saved the log in stuff ’cause I didn’t plan on going back. I had to sign up to view the user manual for my monitor (after moving the office, a lot of things are missing). I had the system send me a new password, logged in, and found the subscribe/unsubscribe section. And this is what I found:

Check out the second line, the one on how to unsubscribe. Now they went and made me mad. And the rest of it is no better. The email I was sent isn’t listed since it was a general content one. I bet that if I checked any or all of those then hit confirm, I’d be subscribed, not UNsubscribed. And that dumbass graphic? It is a java script to actually send me back a page.

ASUS is a big enough company without pulling shit like this. It makes them look like a scam site and makes me wonder what else is going on. At this point, I am tempted to get another monitor (I can’t get the speakers to work and am thinking it is an OS issue but now I’m not sure).

And now I am off to write ASUS an email and tell them where they can put….

EDIT:

After quite a bit of searching, I found what I wanted. I sent the web site morons a message. Granted, it will most likely get ignored and I will be mocked but that’s to be expected.

I rec’d an email today from you (Asus) and, thinking I had subscribed to something, went to unsubscribe. And what I found there has me wondering just what kind of company you are. I am quite angry at the childishness.

Want to explain the dumb “back” java script graphic? What moron thought that was appropriate? What kind of customer do you think buys your products? Is this what customers are to expect from Asus? If so, I’ll be replacing my products and spreading the word.

  1. I’m willing to bet that the back button was added just after a particular employee was laid off — and no one left knows how to remove it.
