Yesterday

Yesterday was Errand Day.

Lorna took the day off because she had stuff to do about the accident last week. We left the house here at ten-ish (yes, I was up but not very “at ’em”) to get into town to meet the Geico adjuster (the kid’s insurance co.) at some repair place. The estimate is going to come out to almost $3000 dollars! I am still afraid the frame may be compromised, but we’ll see when they get in there.

After that, we went to Weaverville to an ins. place then went home for a short bit so she could make some phone calls. We then went back into town to another ins. place (meanwhile, I’m doing a lot of sitting in the truck and reading magazines and drooling in the Cyberguys catalog).

After that, we went to Kmart. Big mistake. All Lorna wanted was one pair of jeans. But she insisted I go in with her. We found me a motorized chair and headed to the men’s department. She has found that most women’s jeans just do not move enough for her job so she wears men’s relaxed fit Wranglers.

We found Lorna jeans and I talked her into getting two pair. Then we saw that the brand I use (Route 66) was on sale. So I got a one too. Then, as we crossed through men’s department to get Lorna some undershirts (she gets cold easily), we passed some Joe Boxer fleece pants/pajamas. Since mine died last winter, I stopped to look at them to see what was available. Lorna picked out two colors she liked for me (vs the Vols orange I wanted) and put them in the buggy on the chair. (her ‘get one pair of jeans’ has now grown to 5 different pants)

At the undershirts, her size wasn’t available in the colors she wanted but, she saw that they had my size in the muscle Tees. (hey, she thinks I look butch in them. gotta make sure she likes looking at me, ya know!) We both agree it is time to leave the store so we head to the front.

We pass the furniture department. Lorna is intrigued with a high table they had and sits in one of the chairs for it. She tells me to come around from the other side. As I do, I see the pillows. I remind her that I need a new one. (I need a down pillow to help stabilize my neck) She walks the aisle and finds some there (at Kmart?? yes!) Since the price there is better than the ones we have seen in catalogs, we grab one for me. Then Lorna grabs a second one for herself. (copycat)

Okay, now we are leaving for real this time. But we pass the pillowcases. You guessed it. We get two sets in different colors and one set of white (I like to double bag my pillows).

We head out. Again.

Then we pass the Halloween candy dept. But no, we resist. We finally make it to the front counter. I leave them the chair and they give me back my stick (forearm crutch). Lorna says to go to the truck and she’ll check us out. Her ‘just one pair of jeans’ shopping trip has cost us nearly $140.

We get gas on the way home (which has jumped over 30 cents since we’d passed it that same morning!!). At the house, I start taking the labels off the jeans and pulling the plastic off the pillows to let them air out. That’s when I realize the undershirts and the pillowcases weren’t brought in. Lorna goes to the truck. They aren’t there either. She’d left them at the register.

She calls them, they have it, we’ll get them this afternoon.

  1. Doncha just love the Cyberguys dead-tree catalog? I’ve bought from them several times and had good luck with all of it. Stuff not to be found elsewhere on this planet…

As for the PJ pants, BIG mistake! Should have held out for the Big Orange ones!
