Laptop Troubles Part 2

The laptop is still misbehaving. I spanked it and sent it to bed without any supper last night, but alas, it is at it again. Perhaps I should try psychology on it.

At any rate, I called Charlotte Street Computers today and they said they would look at it. I could actually take it in today and it would get looked at in the morning. But I’ve decided to wait until after the holiday. It is a little crazy around her lately, with just one car and all that.

Anyway, I am hitting save on my documents every few minutes or so. I did a big backup the other day and I’ll do one each afternoon at least of the WIP folder.

The rest of this post has images so to give folks the option of viewing them or not, I’m cutting this post. If you want to view them, do this:

When available, click the image for larger version.

This is the laptop with the keyboard out:

This is the heatsink and CPU holder doohickey before I cleaned it up.

These screws are what secures the heatsink to the CPU. They are numbered and it is recommended you remove and replace them in that order. The screws are held in with springs and don’t fall out.

This is the heatsink and stuff back in. Yeah, the image is blurred. I twitched. To the left of the heatsink is the video card and connection.

This is the video cable that I took off and put back on, making sure it was well-seated.

This is where the video cable goes into the monitor. It doesn’t move but it does have a twist to it. (and yeah, that’s dog and/or cat fuzz)

These are the saddest images.

This is the left side of the keyboard. The left CTRL button died a long time ago.

This is a close-up of the D key. That gouge started not long after I got it. I have no idea why and I’ve never had any other keyboard do the same thing.

This is of the space bar. Notice the divot on the right side. Guess which thumb hits the space bar?

While I am at it, here is how I cool my laptop.

This is the fan cooler I am using now. I will replace it soon since I really don’t like it.

This is the cooler attached to the laptop. Both are upside down and attached by velcro dots.

This is the back of the computer, all set up. The fan on the left is blowing INWARD toward the heatsink fins. The laptop fan blows air downward. The cooler sucks the air down then out the back. I have had the external fan blow outward but when I took it apart, I saw how the inside works and thought I’d try to give the internal fan a hand. We’ll see.

And last, but not least, what every desk needs–a desk monkey.
