My work has come to a grinding halt while I take care of some stuff. But that’s okay, I am fine with that. Really. Yeah, I mean it.

You don’t believe me, do you? Hmph. Well, alright. It’s not okay with me. Creativity wise, I feel good.

SSv6 is going much better than I thought it was. Amazing what happens when a writer pauses to re-read. This story has been going on for nearly two years now. Time to get ‘er done.

BG2 and BG3 are getting poked at in my head. I think I need to stop thinking about the plot and just write it. I do best that way, I don’t know why I feel I absolutely must think. It just isn’t natural. At any rate, BG2 (aka UHauls) is also two years old. Sheesh. Have I been at this that long??

Lorna wants me to revive Predictable World, a set of short stories that could easily become a book. I dunno…I’m just not there any more. PW was started over 2 yrs ago and was actually the story that got me to thinking I might want to do more writing.

Wayback is still sitting there. I’ve not looked at it in a looooong time. It was my first book I wrote from beginning to end. It will always be my favorite.

Can’t sleep

Wish I could turn it off
Wish I could shut them up
Can’t sleep

Awake is my martini

Can’t sleep

Eyes won’t stay open
But brain won’t shut up
The roar is too loud

The universe is a constant dance. Swing your planet, do-si-do. Orbits are synchronized to within a nana-second. Early humans used the sun to keep track of time. Stonehenge is one example of how old the concept of time is.

Inside of all of us is a clock, a rhythm that is still ticking, despite us being far removed from the hunters/gatherers. Some people can tell themselves to wake up at X o’clock and they do, right on time. Others wake up the same time every day, no matter the day.

They say dogs have no sense of time. Tell that to the dog that awaits the bus at the same time every week day. Tell that to Jake who, starting at 3:15pm on the dot, will start demanding dinner.

Some folks need that 8 hrs, others function just fine on less or more.

Me? I’m all screwed up. Night Owl poster child. It is as if my clock is just never set right. It’s not blinking 12:00 like the VCR. But it’s never right.

I got stuff on my mind and didn’t sleep last night. Haven’t napped yet today. I am trying to stay awake as long as I can in an attempt to reboot my clock again. I don’t think I will make it till 8.

Got a letter from the imaging place.

All is a-okay with my mammogram. Yay!

It is good to have a clean baseline image now.

bookmark_borderPaula and the DMV

Okay, I think I have calmed down enough now.

First, my birthday was back in August and I am just now renewing my license. But with the truck constantly in the body shop or being on the mail route and me home without a vehicle, it was not only difficult to get there but also, why bother??

So I finally went yesterday. I kinda knew that I would get some grief just because I was late. But I didn’t expect this. I didn’t take my chair in since it is difficult to load by myself. And I didn’t take Joella in because I thought the place would be full of Mexicans (the majority of them freak when they see her). So all I had was me and my crutch.

They finally call my number, I go over. Then I am asked why I use the crutch.

“I have a connective tissue disorder.”

He stares at me.

“I have EDS.” (‘cept I say the full name).

He stares at me.

I finally said I am hypermobile.

He asks me to spell Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. So I tell him. He can’t find it on his computer. He goes over and whispers to another officer who tells him to call Raleigh. I say what’s the big deal? I don’t use hand controls. He said it doesn’t matter. Raleigh has heard of EDS and that I need to have a ‘medical’.

To make this short, I have about six pages of a form for my doctor to fill out and send to Raleigh (the main DMV office). They wanted to also take me out for a road test. Problem. I have a dog in the truck.

We are outside at the truck (I told them she’s a SD) and he asks me for my letter.

“What letter?”

“Letter of medical necessity to have the dog.”

“I don’t have one. I don’t need one. The federal law says I don’t have to have any proof, i.d., or letter for my SD.”

They then hand me a copy of their manual. I have to have a letter before the officer will ride in the truck with me. AND she has to be restrained to the point she cannot reach him in the front seat.

WTF??!!

So….

I took today off to calm down and tomorrow I will call the Raleigh office and find out what is going on. This is putting the burden of proof on me. I (and any other PWD) have to pay for the doctor’s visit to ask him to fill all that crap out. Many doctors refuse since it makes them legally responsible for me being able to drive. Elena had to pay a rehab clinic to give her their driver’s exam since her doc refused.

Aaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!

You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull on Superman’s cape
You don’t pull the mask on the old Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess around with me.

Is there life still for Firefly and Serenity?

Hell yeah!

There always has been a huge fan base, despite the idiocy of the Fox Network. The movie just increased that count.

Now, there is a possibility of Firefly Season 2. They are not sure yet just how it would be distributed: Pay-Per-View/On-Demand; monthly subscriber DVD; or the whole season on DVD set.

bookmark_borderYet more done

After a wonderful experience at the DMV (more on that later), I came home, fumed for a while, then after Lorna went to bed, I got to work. Smerged some external scenes into the main document. I’ll smooth the seams later. It feels right so…perhaps I did good.

No news from publisher.

No news on competition.

Progress on SS.

bookmark_borderOver a hump, I think

I do believe, boys and girls, that I am over a hump/block/problem/plot-hole/whatever in terms of SS. I backed up and added in some scenes that, I think, pushed it back over into Fantasy. The scenes aren’t put in yet, I have them in a seperate document, but they are going to fit jes’ fine.

I felt like crap today so I didn’t get started until late. Even then I just kinda poked at it. But then I opened a new document and started writing. Felt good, you know?

Still haven’t heard from the short story competition I entered.

It’s not time yet to look for a reply to the novel I submitted.

No word yet on the possible anthology.

I am behind on my articles for EDSToday. I’ll get that done this week, if it is not too late. (note to self: ask her)

I’ve got some magazines I am considering sending in a non-fiction piece to. And one literary magazine/publication/thing I would love to get the nerve up to send something to.

Guess that is about it. I’m going to get a snack. I may stay up and write some more. I dunno.

bookmark_borderCool Resource

I am writing (shock, eh) and needed to know more about a chisel and an awl. So, I of course went to Wikipedia. At the bottom of the awl article was a link for “How to Use a Stitching Awl in Leather Work”. Since Sarah is a leather crafter, I checked it out. This link led me to an article at eHow.com.

I then played around some on the site, and think it is going to be another great resource for basic information. eHow.com – Clear Instructions on How To Do (just about) Everything:

What is eHow.com?
eHow.com is the world’s most widely read how to manual. Every month over 4 million people visit eHow to learn how to do something. With hundreds of thousands of pages of advice, eHow offers staff-written, reviewed and edited step-by-step solutions. Every eHow is clear, concise, and accurate. So whether you are learning how to tie a tie, build a deck, kiss on a date, train your dog to heel, ollie on a skateboard, lose weight, negotiate a raise, or even throw a curveball – eHow can help you. We at eHow love to share our expertise with the world and in turn offer our users the opportunity to share their expertise with others.

Like Wikipedia, it is user driven and made. So, like, you know, check it out.

bookmark_borderSlow Going

SS is slowly coming together. I realized the other day that it is too close to a romance and too far from a fantasy, which is NOT my intention. So I am adding in scenes that pertain to the fantasy part. I like the feel of it now, or at least it is growing on me.

The relationship between the MC and another MC is important–it has to happen not only for the plot line but for other reasons as well. So while I need to get them together, I also need to keep the reader remembering this is a fantasy, not a romance. Sure, there is romance tossed in; can’t help myself I guess.

In the meantime, I am freewriting some, just to get the creative sludge to moving. I may post some of it here later, after I clean it up (my spelling is awful!)

Court drops Turkish writer’s case

A Turkish court has dropped a case against the country’s internationally renowned writer Orhan Pamuk, who faced charges of “insulting Turkishness”.

The move came after the justice ministry refused to issue a ruling as to whether the charges should stand.

The case drew criticism from the EU, which Turkey hopes to join one day.

Mr Pamuk was said to be delighted that charges had been dropped. They related to his remarks on Turkish 20th-Century killings of Kurds and Armenians.

Brussels had described the case as a litmus test of Turkey’s EU membership credentials.

The European Union’s Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said the court’s decision to drop charges was “good news for freedom of expression in Turkey”.

Later in the article, they mention more specifics of the reason behind the charges:

The case stems from a magazine interview last year in which Mr Pamuk said: “One million Armenians and 30,000 Kurds were killed in these lands and nobody but me dares talk about it.”

I am glad, then, that I live in the US where I can freely say what a jackass my current gov’t is and what a fool my appointed president is.

However, I might just go do a Google search for jackass and fool, just to see if I am questioned later.
